Gallant effort from Tavistock’s son

Superstock bounced back from a last-start failure to produce a tenacious display on the Hillside course at Sandown.

The son of the late Tavistock dug deep at the end of 1800 metres to account for his Benchmark 70 rivals and his fifth career victory for Flemington trainers Mark and Levi Kavanagh.

Our homebred had been successful at Ballarat in May before he was out of the frame at Mornington.

“He trained off a little bit and it was too cold to send him to the paddock, so we kept him in and he freshened up nicely,” Mark Kavanagh said.

Superstock tracked the pace to the turn before mounting his challenge early in the run home and was headed before rallying strongly to score in a driving finish.

“He showed plenty of fight, I thought he was gone two or three times, but he just kept on going,” Kavanagh said.

We offered Superstock through Maluka Thoroughbreds’ draft at the 2021 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale where he was knocked down to Kavanagh Racing for A$90,000.

He is the first foal of the Savabeel mare Sistabeel, who won four races up to 1200 metres, and she’s from the family of South African stakes winners Dance To The Stars and Follow The Star.

Sistabeel has a colt by Armory last season and is back in foal to Hello Youmzain.
